Of course, there are quite a few chronographs out there. Once you’ve chosen between a manual or automatic caliber, you then have to decide whether you want a two or three-subdial layout. The Hamilton Intra-Matic is a classic-looking chronograph. With its panda dial and two subdials, it is a decidedly elegant sports watch. The Hamilton Intra-Matic chronograph didn’t come out of nowhere: The brand took inspiration from one of their vintage pieces. The modern timepiece shares many characteristics with its older counterpart. They have the same case shape, same dial style, and same pushers. That being said, the newer model does boast an updated case size and newer movement. The charm of the Hamilton Intra-Matic chronograph lies in the way it mixes vintage design with new materials and technology. The pump pushers are holdovers from a bygone era, while the 40-mm case is clearly a product of the late 2010s. Either way, this is a lovely piece for a great price.

There are lots of new features these days, though, including updated modules with solar charging, Bluetooth compatibility, and new materials like steel. The G-Shock has always been a very affordable watch thanks to its quartz movement and plastic case. Today, there are models that look like any other G-Shock but come in a steel case; the GMW-B5000GD-1ER, for example. Of course, this means a slightly higher price tag since this timepiece is truly one-of-a-kind in Casio’s portfolio – and that’s why enthusiasts should really think about getting one. You won’t see many in the wild, guaranteed.

Glashütte Original is one of Germany’s finest luxury watch manufacturers. The brand has a long and interesting history, just like the country it comes from. However, there has always been one constant: high-quality watch production. Take a look at the Pano collection and the PanoMaticLunar models, in particular. This timepiece epitomizes modern high-end German watchmaking. The design is unmistakably from Glashütte (perhaps some other brands also come to mind?), but comes with a crazy twist – well, crazy by classic watch standards, anyway. These watches feature a moon phase display at 2 o’clock and a panorama date at 5. It is a very unusual layout, yet it works well with the overall aesthetic. The way the subdial slightly overlaps the off-center dial could easily look busy, but Glashütte Original strikes the perfect balance here. There is beautiful harmony between the date, moon phase, small seconds, and main dial – all housed in an elegant, round 40-mm case. The Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar has a charm that not many timepieces possess, and that’s not in spite of its unconventional design, but because of it. For this, and many other reasons, we see it as an iconic piece – a classic from the cradle of German watchmaking: Glashütte.
