For sale is my Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, which has only been worn for special occasions and is in very good condition. And this is a very special Royal Oak...
...an early Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 5402ST b-series with the ap logo at 6 o'clock. In this condition an absolute dream for every watch collector and rarer than the a-series! The first Royal Oak 5402ST was presented to the public at Baselworld in 1972. The new wristwatch combined sportiness and elegance. A slim stainless steel case with a diameter of 39mm, an octagonal bezel held in place with 8 screws and a petit tapisserie dial. This ingenious design was created by Gerald Genta and is still considered revolutionary today. Gerald Genta, who designed watches for Universal Genève, Omega, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, among others, later claimed that the ap Royal Oak was the masterpiece of his career. Today, the Royal Oak is one of the most famous watches of all time. The reference 5402ST was produced until the end of the 1970s in four series a, b, c and d, which had only subtle design differences. An important feature for collectors is the position of the ap logo on the dial. Only the a series and part of the b series bear the ap logo at 6 o'clock. Later versions of the b-series and all watches of the c- and d-series have the logo at 12 o'clock. While around 2000 examples of the a-series were produced, the b-series is actually the rarer version because fewer were produced than the a-series! This Royal Oak is one of these rare 1975 b-series with the ap logo at 6 o'clock. The stainless steel case is almost in as-delivered condition. The bracelet is worn but has only minimal scratches. Technically, the Royal Oak 5402ST belongs to the crème de la crème of automatic movements thanks to its caliber 2121. This movement has become famous for its thinness. It is still the thinnest full-rotor automatic movement in the world. Caliber 2121 is still used today in the Royal Oak Jumbo (Ref. 15202). This Royal Oak comes with the original box and has an original Audemars Piguet travel/care set. The service papers (last service 07.2021) prove the originality and origin of the watch. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 5402ST is an icon and should not be missing from any serious collection. This example is extremely rare in this condition, beautifully preserved and absolutely unique. I have owned the watch for more than 40 years and am the second owner. We are a pet-free, non-smoking household. The serial number begins with: B16XX A certificate of authenticity will be issued on request! Serious offers welcome. |
